North Imenti Member of Parliment Rahim Dawood has urged Meru Teachers College to adhere to directives issued by the Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry, Aden Duale, to ensure the removal of the asbestos roof remaining in the institution and dispose of it in line with NEMA guidelines.

Both government and private facilities, including schools, were given three ultimatum to comply with the government directives.

In another development, Dawood lauded President William Ruto for employing many teachers during his short time as Head of State. “We should give credit where it is due. It is during his tenure that 85,000 teachers have been employed in one year, making it the highest number of tutors to be employed at once,” Dawood said.

The MP stated that when Parliament resumes, he will do a follow up regarding loans to ensure teachers training colleges get recognized by the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) so that trainees secure loans. “It is not fair for TVET institutions to get loans while teacher training colleges do not,” Dawood said.

The legislator maintained that he does not support abduction but also urged the youths to be cautious of the information they disseminate to avoid hate speech and defamation.

Dawood added that through the artificial projects limbs to disabled people, 500 have benefitted from the project, and more expected to benefit this year.
