Gem MP has urged school principals to keep students in school amid funding delays.

MP Elisha Odhiambo asked heads of secondary schools in the constituency to refrain from sending students home over unpaid school fees.

The legislator acknowledged the ongoing delay in bursary disbursements but reassured school principals that funds would soon be allocated.

Speaking at the Gamba Resource Center during the send-off for 30 students bound for Ugenya Technical and Vocational College, Odhiambo emphasized the importance of keeping learners in the classroom. He highlighted plans to expedite the distribution of bursaries to support students in need.

Odhiambo also encouraged Form Four leavers who didn’t qualify for university to pursue technical education, noting that skilled workers are in high demand in today’s job market.

Additionally, he issued a strong warning to miners in the East Gem area who have been reported to be cohabiting with schoolchildren. He instructed the Deputy County Commissioner for Gem Yala to take immediate action against these individuals, primarily from neighbouring Migori County, asserting that their actions jeopardize the futures of innocent children. “We cannot allow this behaviour to continue,” he stated firmly.
