Thirteen Comprehensive schools in West Mugirango Constituency have received 1500 lockers and chairs to enable Junior Secondary School (JSS) learners have an enabling learning environment.
Speaking in Nyamira Township Ward, West Mugirango MP Steve Mogaka said that the modern desks will boost the morale of learners to concentrate and do better in their studies.
The MP observing that the Grade 9 learners were supposed to have moved to secondary school in the previous education syllabus he said, “Traditionally, the Grade 9 could be in Form 1 and there’s need to ensure they enjoy the same environment while still confined within their respective Primary Schools.”
He said that creating a conducive environment in their schools like constructing modern spacious classrooms, allowing them to wear uniforms different from those of primary schools and treating them like high school learners will motivate them study comfortably and continue to excel in their co-curricular and academic endeavours.

“We need to create friendly learning environment for pioneers in the system to enable them maintain their studying spirit instead of feeling dejected as they are called secondary school learners but still in the same primary schools where they have been since they joined pre-primary classes,” he said.
Some of the schools that benefited include Mobamba and Nyamira comprehensive schools that received 45 lockers each.
The MP pledged more than KSh24 million from NG-CDF to convert Nyamira Primary to a model school when he laid a foundation stone for a two storeyed block that will contain 12 classrooms.
He added that the block will house other rooms such as computer lab, modern laboratory and conference hall.
“We are going to build a school which will adopt modern technology to enhance quality delivery of education to our children,” he said.
He appealed to parents to join hands with teachers in order to better education standards and cautioned them against wrangles because it hampers education.
