Narok County Women Representative Rebecca Tonkei has welcomed the recent mass recruitment of teachers on Permanent and Pensionable terms.
Tonkei described the move as historic, as no government, since independence, had taken such a move before.
According to her, the move will help tackle unemployment but also boost academic levels as the country transforms into the CBC.
“We thank the government for hiring the highest number of teachers. This is historic because no government has ever done this,” she noted.
Speaking in Kilgoris town, she also expressed joy over the number of teachers hired in the county, pointing out that the region had been marginalised over the years.

“Our county also got a lot of slots. This has never happened before and as residents we are so happy about this,” she pointed out.
Tonkei urged locals to invest in their children’s education, further promising that as leaders they fully support efforts by the government to better education in the country.
“Education is the equaliser and I want to ask our parents to invest in their children’s education. The government has put efforts to boost academic levels in the country and as leaders we fully support them,” added Tonkei.
The government has hired over 56,000 Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers on PnP and is set to recruit 20,000 interns this month as it seeks to tackle teachers’ shortage in the country.
Teachers’ unions have also welcomed the move, even as it emerges that the country is in need of at least 100,000 teachers.
