Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba has congratulated the new Principal of Ebukanga Technical and Vocational College (TVC) Newton Shivachi which is located in his Constituency in Vihiga County, for increased enrolment in the institution three months when he took over.

Shivachi, who was the deputy principal at Michuki National Polytechnic in Murang’a County, became the new Principal at the institution, replacing Clara Timothy who was transferred to Sirisia TVC in Bungoma in the reshuffles done by the Ministry’s state department of Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) late last year.

Speaking yesterday when he paid a courtesy call to assess the progress of training at the college, Milemba praised the new principal for his progressive and transformative leadership which has seen the enrolment at the institution increasing from 295 trainees to 601 trainees within three months from November last year when he was deployed to the institution.

The key transformation the new Principal has undertaken within the short period is the official handing over of the college from the mentor institution, the Friends National Polytechnic (FNP) – Kaimosi, to Ebukanga TVC BOG which was done on January 30, 2025 in a ceremony attended by the FNP Council chair Prof. Michael Iravo and Chief Principal Okumu JW Odhiambo.

Milemba, who also doubles up as Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) National Chairman, promised to construct a fence round the college, give bursaries to needy students, support the construction of classrooms and laboratories, as well as the establishment of a Jitume laboratory.

Ebukanga TVC was established in line with the TVET Act 2013 in the year 2014 and it is among the first 60 TVET Colleges in the initiative of the government to establish a TVET institution in every Constituency. The college is located in Vihiga County, Emuhaya Sub-county, Ebukanga location off Kisumu-Busia road.
