Lugari Member of Parliament Nabii Nabwera has issued a strong appeal to parents to keep their children safe during the Christmas season.
As Christmas festivities begin, the MP underscored the critical role parental guidance plays in steering children away from harmful behaviour.
“As the festive Christmas season commences, I urge parents to offer steadfast moral guidance to their children,” Nabwera said. “It is our shared responsibility to shield them from engaging in detrimental activities such as drug and substance abuse, criminal behaviour, and participation in ‘disco matanga’ events.”
He warned that such activities often lead to severe consequences, including teenage pregnancies, school dropouts, and other societal challenges that undermine the future of young people.

Nabwera called for a collaborative effort among families and communities to address these issues and create a secure and supportive environment for students.
“Let us work together to ensure a brighter future for our children,” he added.
The MP’s remarks come at a time when extended school holidays often present increased risks for students, who may face peer pressure and exposure to negative influences. The festive season, while a time of celebration, can also leave children vulnerable to harmful activities due to reduced supervision.
