KCSE theory papers started smoothly across Busia County today, with 20,000 students sitting the exams.
There are a total of 10,066 girls and to 9,608 boys, a big plus for the girl child. In the private schools category, there are 173 boys and 153 girls.
County Director of Education James Ekalio led the education team in opening the container for Teso North Sub-county that has a student population of 3157, including 1577 boys and 1580 boys drawn from 31 centres.
The exams started in the morning with students sitting English Paper One. They were due to sit Chemistry Paper One in the afternoon.
Addressing the press after the distribution to the centre managers at the DCC offices, Ekalio gave an assurance that no room for exam Malpractices will be witnessed during the duration of the exam as the county has enlisted the multi-agency team to minimize the chances of leakages.

The CDE noted that they are keenly adhering to the laid down procedures on the use of phones to the number of people allowed in school during this exam period.
“ All supervisors were trained on how to man exams and minimize any exam malpractices. We also have security officers assigned to monitor exams, including County Commissioner, County Police Commander, multiagency security, County Director, and sub-county education teams.
Ekalio stated that no exam will be done in police cells or Prisons, adding that such students will be escorted by respective security teams to exam centres, while those in hospitals will be allowed to sit their exams in the health institutions under the supervision of an invigilator and security officer.
Meanwhile, KUPPET Busia County Executive Secretary Moffats Okisai has echoed CDE sentiments that the exams should be devoid of any malpractices and exam supervisors accorded conducive environment.
The Kupper County boss urged KNEC to improve terms of service for teachers, noting that Ksh600 per day payment to the centre managers was a drop in the ocean.
