Moi University VC sent on 8 months leave, Prof Kotut takes over in acting capacity

The Council of the Moi University has sent Vice Chancellor Prof Issac Kosgei on an eight-month leave.

This follows the council meeting held on Thursday, January 30.

Professor Kiplagat Kotut is the new acting Vice Chancellor.

The Council through a letter seen by Education News dated January 30, 2025, written and signed by Chairperson of the Council Professor Noah Midamba, said that the VC has accrued leave days totaling eight months.

“Pursuant to Section 28 of the Employment Act 2007, the Public Service and Procedure Manual 2016 and Clause 10 of your employment contract for 45 working leave days per annum. However, it has come to the notice of the University Council that you have accumulated substantial number of leave days equivalent to eight months.

Based on the above, the University Council has unanimously resolved in its meeting held today January 30, 202 that you procced on eight months leave and  utilise all your accumulated leave days with immediate effect,” reads part of the letter.

The Council was recently sworn in to revive the university which is grappling with multiple challenges.
