Moi University alumnus under the banner “Restore Moi University” has demanded the removal from office of the Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Isaac Kosgey.
The alumni, who held a meeting with Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Julius Ogamba, also called for the dissolution of the university’s governing council.
Speaking on Monday, Governance and Education Advocacy expert Janet Muthoni said the mismanagement of funds had contributed to the ongoing strikes and disruption of learning in the university.
Muthoni, who is also a former Secretary General Moi University Students Association (MUSO), said the government should make changes in the management of the university.
“No taxpayers’ money should be thrown into the university until the management has been overhauled,” Muthoni said.
The alumni noted that the government’s proposal of a Ksh4 billion bailout to address the university’s financial crisis will not work with same management. They also demanded for a forensic audit by the Auditor General.
Juliet Kimemia said as alumni they will not sit and watch as the university go down the drain and drastic actions must be taken.
