MoE sends field officers to conduct urgent inspection of schools

The Ministry of Education (MoE) officials at regional and county offices are conducting a countrywide inspection of schools.

The officers, including Quality Assurance and Standards Officers and County and Sub-County Directors, have embarked on assessing the infrastructure situation at the institutions.

In particular, the staff are scrutinizing the preparedness of the schools for Grade 9 students. Grade 9 marks the final phase of Junior school after which learners will move to Senior school in 2026 where they will have an opportunity to choose career pathways.

The officials are tasked with checking the state of sanitation, staffing, teacher readiness, teaching, and available learning resources at the visited schools, among other things.

A senior officer at the MoE who spoke to Education News said that heads of schools had already been notified about the exercise.

He also indicated that the schools had been advised of the documents required at the inspection time and asked them to prepare adequately to receive the field officers.

Some of the documents required in life include teachers’ schemes of work, lesson plans, class attendance registers, progress record reports, and records of work.

This exercise comes two weeks before schools close for half-term, slated for February 26 to March 3.

The inspection also comes barely two weeks after the Ministry released school capitation funds. School heads protested that the disbursed monies were too little to run their institutions.
