The Ministry of Education has stopped the registration of mid-year KCSE examinations that were scheduled to take place in July this year.
Basic Education Principal Secretary Dr Belio Kipsang today morning said they are complying with a court order that suspended the recently launched KCSE July series.
Dr Kipsang said the Ministry will wait instructions from the Attorney General on how to proceed.
Yesterday, Justice Teres Achieng Odera of Kisii High Court suspended the registration of mid-year July KCSE examinations pending hearing of the case filed by Dr Magare Gikenyi, a Consultant Surgeon based in Nakuru who argued that the mid-year KCSE exams violate the rights of students.
The mid-year examination targets candidates who missed previous KCSE exams as a result of unforeseen occurrences such as illness. Also, students who wish to resit the exams and private students were eligible to register.

In his application, Dr Gikenyi wants the tests halted as they were introduced without public participation alleging that no stakeholders were involved in the process.
He further states that July and November examinations will create two categories of students because those who will sit for the mid-year examinations will have little time to prepare.
Meanwhile, the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has supported the court’s decision to suspend the exams saying that they were discriminatory.
