Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has dismissed rumours regarding reintroduction of cut-off points for university admissions.
In a statement released today, Ogamba confirmed that the minimum requirement for university admission remains a grade of C+ (plus).
He noted that 246,391 students who achieved this grade in the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination are eligible to join the university this year.

“The Government has not reinstated cut-off points for university admission. The minimum requirement for university, which will apply to the 2024 KCSE cohort, is a Mean Grade of C+ (plus).
Therefore, all 246,391 students who obtained a Mean Grade of C+ (plus) and above qualify for university admission,” the statement read.
Furthermore, CS Ogamba assures that the government has carefully planned the funding for university education for the 2024 KCSE cohort. The Ministry of Education estimates an annual expenditure of Ksh 25.85 billion, a significant but manageable amount.
Additionally, Ogamba announced that the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), a key player in the university admission process, will open the placement portal for the September 2025 university intake in March 2025.
He mentioned that the KUCCPS portal has been accessible since January 24, 2025, for the placement of applicants to the Kenya Medical Training College, Teacher Training Colleges, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions for the March and May 2025 intakes.
