Migori residents want integrity taught in schools to curb cheating in exams

Education CS Julius Ogamba during the distribution of exams recently. Migori residents are suggesting that integrity lessons are introduced in the education curriculum to curb cheating.

Residents of Migori County have asked the government to introduce integrity as an examinable subject at all levels of education to enable children grow knowing corruption is evil.

Led by a former High School Principal Robert Odhiambo at Uriri town, they were reacting to Education CS Julius Ogamba’s suggestion that teachers involved in cheating should have their practicing licence revoked permanently.

“Integrity lessons in a child in their young age and they will never abandon it in their adult life,” Odhiambo said.

Saying that they do not support theft of examinations, they asked the CS to use his professional experiences in law and blend it with ideas from education experts to streamline the examinations administration instead of giving statements
based on instilling short-lived fear in law breakers.

“The public wants to hear institutionalize policies that will return our national examinations to former glory,” Daniel Oluoch said.

While conducting routine inspection of the examination progress recently, Ogamba had asserted that any convicted teachers will be deregistered by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

Nonetheless, he denied there were malpractices in the on-going examinations but admitted, but went ahead in a contradictory statement that those involved in cheating have been arrested.

“On those isolated notorious cases we are not going to penalize whole schools but individuals will carry their own crosses,” he said, promising better services in the administration of exams in this country and asked the public to retain their confidence in the system.
