It was pomp and colour at Meteitei Boys High School in Nandi County after the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, along with friends, rewarded the boys with a rare Scania bus following the school’s impressive results in the 2024 KCSE. Last year’s results were the best since its establishment in 1981.
In 2023, Felix Koskei had promised the boys a Scania-engineered bus if they broke the record.
The school, which emerged third in Nandi County in last year’s KCSE, had an overall mean of 8.9, up from 8.2 in 2023. According to the Senior Principal, Barnabas Too, the overall performance was A- 23, B 101, B 112, C 23, and C- 6.
A total of 431 students attained university entry marks. The principal attributed the good performance to the cooperation between teachers, students, parents, subordinate staff, and the Board of Management.

The area MP, who is also the Education Committee Chair in the National Assembly, thanked the parents for their support of the school’s programs, which created an ambient environment for both students and teachers.
He also expressed gratitude to the Head of Public Service, an alumnus of the school, for his concern and dedication to the school’s development. He reiterated his unwavering support for ensuring Taptengelei Technical becomes a world-class institution.
Nandi County Governor Stephen Sang challenged the 2025 candidates to match the bus quality they were awarded.
“A Scania-engineered bus is a rare machine due to its quality. In Nandi, it is found at Barton University, Kapsabet Boys, and now in Meteitei. So, it means you are up there at the level of Kapsabet Boys. Nothing can stop you from challenging them,” said the elated Governor.

The Head of Public Service reminded the boys of the school’s journey since its establishment in 1981. He thanked the teachers and parents for keeping the school motto, “Jifunze Uelimike,” alive.
He challenged this year’s candidates to work smart to achieve the set target mean of 10.4. He also took the opportunity to launch water projects sponsored by the County Government of Nandi and a playing field bought by the school’s parents and the NG-CDF Tindiret Constituency. These projects benefit both the school and the community.
Several school alumni and parents were also present to grace the occasion, including Dr. Belio Kipsang (Principal Secretary, Basic Education), Paul Rono (Principal Secretary, Agriculture), Farouk Kibet, and Dr. Kipkirui Chepkwony, CEO of IGRTC.
