Measures put in place to prevent fire outbreaks in Siaya schools

What remained from the raging fires that destroyed dormitories in Riokindo Boys. Measures have been taken to ensure safety in schools in case of fires in Siaya schools.

The government through the Ministry of Education (MoE) has put in place adequate measures that will help in ensuring that there are no fire outbreaks in schools within Siaya County.

Siaya County Director of Education (CDE) Mbugua Kabaki says that even though they have not yet experienced any serious cases relating to school fires in the county, they have put in place systems to ensure that they prevent any possible occurrence.

He revealed that they have embarked on a multi-sectoral approach bringing together all the relevant stakeholders to support them in talking to the management of schools to ensure safety and security of the learners at all times.

Kabaki stated that they are on high alert to ensure they don’t leave anything to chance, noting that they shall embark on inspection of all schools that have boarding facilities across the county from next week to ensure they are all safe.

The CDE stated that they shall be inspecting the schools to ensure they have operational fire-fighting equipment, students properly sensitized on fire and other emergency drills, among other precautionary measures.
