Former Nyamira Senator Mong’are Okong’o has faulted a section of Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) for seeking to impeach Governor Amos Nyaribo over alleged misuse of bursary funds.

Okong’o, who addressed the public in Nyamira town on Friday, said that he had looked at the allegations and found no evidence of fund misappropriation.

“I am a lawyer and I have perused documents collected from the Assembly Clerk accusing the Governor and I have found them baseless,” he said.

He asked the two parties to sit together and iron out their differences to avoid derailment of development.

His call was supported by the Governor who said that he was ready for dialogue with his Members of County Assembly (MCAs).

Speaking at Sironga High School during a Dairy Farmers Induction Workshop, Nyaribo reiterated that he was innocent but called for a meeting with the MCAs to solve the impasse.

“This is the time when our children are preparing for their examinations and they need our consolidated efforts to give them moral support instead of engaging in politics which come and go but the lives of our children remain with us,” he said.

He termed the MCAs’ move as malicious saying that he suspected it was instigated by his political rivals.

On their part, the MCAs denied that theirs was a witch-hunt to ensure the impeachment of the Governor.

Led by County Assembly Deputy Majority leader Duke Masira, they said they have already collected 28 signatures out of a total of 34 in favour of the impeachment.

“We are not malicious in our quest but we want to replace him with a competent person who can take the county to the next level,” said Masira.

His sentiments were echoed by Kiabonyoru Ward MCA Vincent Menecha who said that the Governor had failed to foster development in the county.

Trouble started between the MCAs and the Governor when he sacked his CEC for Health Dr. Timothy Ombati for alleged embezzlement of funds meant to procure drugs for public hospitals.

They said that Dr. Ombati was a devoted civil servant who did his work diligently.

“Dr. Ombati was dismissed because he refused to give in to the corrupt intimidations from the Governor,” said one of the MCAs.
