Matiliku Boys from Nzaui Sub-County emerged as the top performers in Makueni County, securing the most trophies during the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Term One Games at the county level.
In handball, which has become increasingly competitive, Nduluni Girls from Mukaa were crowned champions, followed by Professor Kaloki Secondary in second place and Nguu in third.
Matiliku Boys claimed the boys’ trophy, with Mbooni Boys taking second place and Nduluni Boys in third.
St Joseph’s Girls from Kibwezi secured first place in girls’ hockey, followed by Ukia Girls in second and AIC Nunguni from Kilungu in third.

For boys’ hockey, Matiliku Boys clinched the trophy. At the same time, Makueni Boys and Kitondo Boys followed in second and third places, respectively
Makueni Girls took first place in basketball, with Clay International and Kavuthu Secondary securing second and third, respectively.
Kasikeu topped the rankings for the boys, with Matiliku and Mbooni following in second and third places.
In rugby, Misuuni-Kambu secured first place, Nduluku Boys took second, and Makueni Boys rounded off the top three.
The games were officially closed by the chief guest, Mercy Gitari, Sub County Quality Assurance Director for Nzaui, who expressed her delight at hosting the event and praised the level of discipline shown by the participants.
“We have nurtured these talents, and we expect them to shine on the global stage,” Gitari said. “Let’s continue developing these young talents into something bigger.”
The host principal, Johnstone Ndivo, also the KESSHA Chairman for Makueni County, congratulated the teams for giving their best effort. He expressed gratitude for the support received, saying the challenging times but emphasizing that they could overcome with the help of God and the government.
Ndivo also encouraged the teams advancing to regional competitions to maintain a winning mindset and take Makueni to the next level.
“We will continue supporting these activities. As our students graduate, we’ll guide them in talent development. Students in Morocco, Spain, and other countries have made it because of sports,” he said.
