Marakusi teams dominate in Lugari Sub-county polytechnic games

Marakusi teams dominated the 2024 County Polytechnic Games held at Lukhokho Grounds in Lugari Sub-county, emerging as standout performers particularly in soccer and various other sports.

The teams are now cleared for the upcoming county level showdown organized by the County Government of Kakamega.

In the boys soccer finals, Marakusi delivered a commanding performance against Lumakanda, clinching a 2-0 victory after a nail-biting 3-2 win over Kabras in the semifinals. The Marakusi girls mirrored this success, triumphing in a dramatic 3-2 win against Mautuma, highlighting their resilience and skill.

Other notable matches included a closely contested 1-1 draw between Kabras ladies and Chekalini, while Kabras Boys secured a narrow 1-0 win over Chekalini.

In a tense handball matchup, Mutua edged past Kabras with a score of 12-10. The girls volleyball final saw Mautuma claim victory over Marakusi, and Kabras clinched the netball title by defeating Chekalini ladies.

As the Lugari Sub-county games concluded, the winning teams are primed to advance to the county-level competition scheduled for October 5th and 6th at St. Teresa Malava.

This event aligns with Governor Fernandes Barasa’s commitment to promote sports and youth development within educational institutions, fostering talent and enhancing community cohesion.

The day was further enriched by the presence of County Ombudsman Nelson Majimbo, Ward administrators and other officials, emphasizing the community’s support for these budding athletes.

Meanwhile, in Navakholo Sub-county, the Games kicked off with intense competition across various sports categories at Navakholo Stadium and Navakholo Municipality Grounds.

In handball, the Bunyala Central Boys team concluded their soccer match against Bunyala West in a 1-1 draw before triumphing 4-3 in a penalty shootout. Bunyala West Boys showcased their dominance in volleyball, defeating Bunyala East in straight sets, while the ladies volleyball category featured a captivating matchup between Bunyala Central and Bunyala East.

With such exhilarating performances, the County Polytechnic Games continue to be a vital platform for nurturing talent and fostering community spirit.
