Man who sat for KCPE exams 9 times dies after cancer diagnosis

Mathew Aol Nyamlori, who sat for KCPE close to a decade, before attaining secondary education has died after being diagnosed with cancer.

Nyamlori rested today morning at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi and his body transferred to Kenyatta University Funeral Home for preservation.

He was found to have gastric cancer advanced to stage 3 in August 2023.

He wrote the standard eight exams nine times.

In 1998, he first sat for his KCPE scoring 478 marks out of a possible 700 at Kipsimbol Primary and got an admission letter to Kabianga High but failed to join due financial hardships.

In 1999, he repeated at Rongo Primary, bagging 559 marks and got an admission letter to Kanga High but dropped in second term because his aunt could not afford his school fees.

He was out of school for two years before joining Kitere Primary in 2002, where he scored 387 marks and got admission letter from Rapogi High but no one was willing to finance his education.

A year later, he enrolled at Sony Sugar Primary scoring 399 marks. In 2004, he was in Rangwe Junior Academy where he bagged 434 marks and was admitted to Maseno High dropping out in the second term.

In 2008, he repeated at Agoro Primary and got 397 and received an admission at Maranda High.

A year later, he sat the examinations at Aldo Rebby Academy where he scored 401 marks and was admitted to Kapsabet High.

In 2010, he repeated at Agape Academy Kosele garnering 401 marks and was admitted to Maranda High, again.

Due to lack of school fees, in 2011, he repeated and scored 403 at Oriri Primary and got admission letter to Nairobi School.

Luckily, this time Equity Bank through the Wings to fly scholarship programme, sponsored his secondary education.

In 2015, he wrote his KCSE and scored a B-plus of 71 points. He was admitted to Kenyatta University where and pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Policy and Administration.

“Mr Mathew Nyamlori Aol-Mr Perseverance the gentleman, who did KCPE 9 times, has rested. Mathew succumbed to cancer after a very brave battle of over two years. Rest well, you fought a good fight buddy. Fare thee well wuod Nyakach,” one of the Facebook user eulogized him.

He is a former employee of Communications Authority of Kenya.
