Hope Mobility Kenya, in partnership with the County Government of Makueni, has kicked off a three-day exercise to donate 400 wheelchairs to assessed persons living with disability in the county.
The exercise is taking place at Makueni Integrated Vocational Education Centre in Wote where the equipment worth Ksh20 million are being modified and assembled for specific needs.
The president of Hope Mobility Kenya Eric Ricky noted that the fitting exercise will be conducted by a team of 40 persons where 29 are from the US and 20 from Kenya.
“We will also do regular follow-ups where support for beneficiaries will be conducted for 6 months for children and one year for adults,” Ricky said.

Through this, the beneficiaries’ reliance on caregivers will be reduced and become independent and improve their well-being and health.
While flagging off the exercise, Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr called upon the public to stop hiding people living with disability at home and instead take them to hospital for assessment.
“We are going to visit every village hunting for such children and grown-ups who might be victims of this. We know taking care of such people is not easy but we will walk the journey with you by helping where we can,” Kilonzo said.
The county has a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hope Mobility Kenya to assist more needy residents with assistive devices.
