Teachers, parents, and learners in Makueni County, you are invited to explore the unique learning experience at the Akamba Cultural Center. This center, akin to a living museum, is a treasure trove of rich historical, cultural, and natural heritage, offering a one-of-a-kind educational journey.
He said that the center is resourceful for learning at this time when the government is implementing a new curriculum and that it is also of great importance for university students to conduct research.
The center’s founder, Julius Mutuku Muindi, a renowned cultural enthusiast and historian, told the residents to avoid associating the facility with witchcraft and instead use it to learn about the heritage.

“Here, we have tangible cultural collections with the best traditional and modern architecture. The cultural center was established when Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) was being rolled out and therefore ideal for the learners to see, touch and learn about the artifacts and everything else they need to know about the culture,” Muindi said.

He added that Competency-Based Curricula (CBC)should be embraced and given prominence, saying, “We call upon people to come here and experience such cultural bases.”
The center, a testament to the founder’s vision and passion, offers a diverse range of facilities including a museum, a gift shop, a club offering traditional and modern wine, accommodations in grass-thatched huts and modern houses, and conference halls. The founder’s dream was born during his studies in Sweden, where he was inspired by a center showcasing African cultural artifacts.
He noted that though Akamba culture is one of the forgotten, we, as a community, are now on the path to revive it. It is our responsibility to embrace and preserve our cultural heritage, a source of pride and identity for us all.
