The Makueni County-level Science Fair concluded yesterday, showcasing many innovative projects.
Charles Nyakundi, the Director of Education, commended the judges’ fairness and expressed his admiration for the presenters’ creativity and innovation. He urged participants to refine their projects, especially those advancing to the regional level.
“With the regionals being hosted at Makueni Boys, I encourage the students to address the minor issues pointed out by the judges. I’m confident these talented students will return with many trophies,” Nyakundi remarked.
The county, which placed third last year, is aiming for the coveted first position this time. Owing to its innovation, Makueni Boys has stood out in many categories.
“I commend our host principal, Patrick Wambua, for ensuring everything went as planned. Keep up the great work, Mwalimu,” Nyakundi added.

Chief Judge Erastus Kimetu, a science patron teacher in Makueni and the KUPPET Chairman, urged teachers to attend science clinics to better understand the dynamics of the science fair and improve their presentation techniques. He emphasized the importance of investing in science education, noting the significant costs and time involved.
Kimetu also encouraged students to prepare thoroughly, stating, “Time was strictly observed, and the smartness, discipline, and level of innovation were impressive. However, we need to improve our write-ups, specifications, and mastery of the subject.”
Principal Patrick Wambua expressed pride in hosting such a significant event and thanked the judges for their dedication. “Despite the short notice, we managed to make this a success. If we did not meet expectations, please let us know,” Wambua said.

KSEF organizing secretary and Makueni County Secretary Peter Mwinzi acknowledged the high level of competition but praised the presenters for their efforts.
Among the 26 participating schools, the top three schools advancing to the regional level are Makueni Boys with 14 projects, Precious Blood with five, and Mwaani Boys with three.
