Machogu appoints new KNQA Council member

Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu has appointed Ms. Beatrice Cherotich Bii as a member of the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) Council.

Ms. Bii, a career Human Resource (HR) specialist, will represent the Association of Professional Society of East Africa (APSEA) and joins other Council Members who were appointed in October this year.

KNQA Acting Director General, Dr. Alice Kande on Friday congratulated Ms. Bii on her appointment noting that it is a crucial time when the organization is working around the clock to ensure the quality of qualifications from learning institutions.

“This appointment is timely as the framework is now in the process of being embraced, their leadership will be vital at a time when we need to do a lot of work in terms of ensuring the quality of qualifications,” she said.

While inaugurating the new Council chaired by former Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis in November, Machogu lauded the Authority for the progress it has made in ensuring that the country has foolproof qualifications that are relevant, globally competitive and portable to allow for mobility of labour and skills across the globe.

Machogu noted that the undertaking has taken a lot of combined sacrifices, adding that the move is to ensure the National Qualifications Framework is fully implemented.

The other  Council members include; Representative of the TVET Principal Secretary Joseph Kanyi, Representative of the National Treasury Principal Secretary Isaiah Ochelle, Representative of the Basic/Early Learning Principal Secretary Everlyn Owoko, Representative of the Commission for University Education (CUE) Prof. Mike Kuria, Representative of TVETA Dr. Kipkurui Langa’t, and Representative of the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Collins Oyuu, who is also KNUT Secretary General.

Others include the Representative of the Ministry of Labour Principal Secretary, Representative of the Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) Ms. Jacqueline Mugo, and Michael Muturi representing the Inspector General of State Corporations.
