Machakos School posted the highest number of A grades this year to record a total haul of 54 A grades and a mean of 7.6973.
Eight boys scored grade A plain while 46 others recorded grade A-, the highest scoop of such grades by the school since the inception of the 8-4-4 system.
A total of 437 candidates out of an entry of 598 qualified for direct entry into university with grade C+ and above representing a transition rate of 73.08 per cent in the 2024 KCSE examination.
The other National school in the county, Kathiani Girls recorded the highest mean of 8.18 but with only 6 grade A- in their top ranks.

Carmel Girls High School, Matungulu Girls and Caring Hearts High School in Tala recorded a mean of 7.68, 7.6 and 7.5 respectively while traditional KCSE giants in the region. Kabaa High and Machakos Girls High had a mean of 7.45 and 7.29 respectively.
The performance of schools in Machakos seemed to pale in comparison to schools in Makueni where Makueni Boys High topped the chart with a mean of 8.816 according to results released by Chief Principal Mr. Francis Mutua.
However, Machakos School beat Makueni Boys in the number of top grades with Makueni Boys recording one grade A plain and 38 grades A- (Minus).
Mutua steered Makueni Boys to achieve an impressive transition rate of 94.51 per cent.
