Kilgoris Constituency MP Julius Sunkuli has told parents to emulate the legacy of the late Stephen Nairenge who hailed from Sankoe Ward in Kilgoris, Narok County.
He lauded the deceased as a bold man who defied all cultural restrictions to embrace Christianity and education which paved way for various modern development in the region.
Sunkuli was speaking to mourners during the funeral ceremony, he asked the community to emulate him and discard some of the outdated practices like Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) which he said leads to a lot of setbacks towards the advancement of the girlchild’s education.
He further asked parents support their children to get access to quality education because it is the best way of eliminating poverty from communities.
He said education and Christian region emancipate communities from primitive way of thinking and gives them the freedom of choice from a wider area of development.
“Education and religion are like a window that when it opens it brings light and shows the occupant the outside which he views to see more light.
The MP asked the residents to embrace the newly introduced the services of Social Health Authority (SHA) because its cards does not expire.
Working hard
Dr Benson Sitilu of Meru University, reminded the congregation on the importance of working hard to get money for the support of quality education of their children as a special investment.
He asked both Form Four leavers and University graduates to join Technically Training Institutes to acquire skills that will enable them to be absorbed in the job market like building and construction, processing industries and civil engineering which are the main readily available in developing country.

“Our country’s main development objective is industrialisation which needs skilled manpower to make it a reality. You have to seize that opportunity and train in the relevant fields to enable you fit in the system,” he said.
The late Stephen Nairenge, will be remembered for championing peace between the Maasai of Transmara and Kisii people of Kenyenya and Nyamache neighbours, who were involved in the battles caused by long traditional cattle rustling between the two communities.
