As the lecturers’ strike enters its 15th day, the University Academic Staff Union (UASU) has urged lecturers to ignore intimidation tactics being used by universities to stop them from participating in the nationwide industrial action.

This comes after several University Management Boards (UMBs) sent letters to lecturers instructing them to resume teaching, despite their demands not being met.

UASU Secretary General Dr. Constantine Opiyo Wasonga spoke today after the union made its second appearance before the National Assembly Education Committee (NAEC) at Bunge Towers, Nairobi where the Inter-Public Universities Consultative Forum (IPUCCF) had been directed to present evidence supporting the government’s proposed Ksh4.3 billion to address lecturers’ demands.

Dr. Wasonga said that their strike centers around unmet demands for better pay and working conditions, insisting that a financial commitment from the government is essential to resolve the impasse.

He reassured members that the strike would continue unabated until concrete solutions are presented.

With the significant disruption of university programmes and student fatigue rising, a quick resolution is crucial but remains elusive.
