The disbursement of bursaries to students by the Kericho County Government will be delayed next year owing to wrangles among MCAs, which has derailed the approval process.
Governor Erick Mutai pointed out that his administration forwarded the members’ list to the assembly in June this year but to date it has not been debated.
“As we speak, the county bursary board has not been approved yet I have forwarded names to the assembly. If we continue like this, we even fear we might not be able to disburse the bursaries. We have fought for positions and forgot that we have residents who entirely rely on bursaries,” he noted.
Addressing the press, he noted that any process relating to the fund cannot continue without a substantive board as required by the county government Act.

Mutai now wants the MCAs to shelve their differences and focus on delivery of services, stating that locals are less interested in leadership feuds.
“Our people are not concerned with positions. All they want is service delivery and I would like to ask MCAs to abandon their differences. These fights have caused a lot of suffering to our people and its time we stopped the fight. Our county has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. This is totally unacceptable,” said Mutai.
Residents on their part accused the MCAs of being egocentric, further threatening to commence the process of recalling the Ward reps.
