Kakamega County leaders have launched an awareness campaign to encourage residents to enroll their children in the newly elevated Shamberere National Polytechnic.

Led by Kakamega Senator Dr. Boni Khalwale, the leaders hailed the government for upgrading the institution saying it will transform the education sector in the region.

“This is a huge milestone in the sub-county and this national polytechnic comes with a bag of goodies as businesses will thrive. Let our people make sure their children who are at home and have completed both Standard 8 and Form 4 and are unable to join university come here for technical training,” he said.

Malava MP Malulu Injendi reiterated the sentiments and thanked TVET Principal Secretary (PS) Dr. Esther Muoria for availing 12 trainers who will begin teaching in January next year.

Higher Education PS Dr. Beatrice Inyangala said the new Polytechnic will boost development in the community and sub-county as a whole.

Dr. Inyangala challenged parents not to shun away from enrolling their children for technical courses as they are in great demand in the job market.

“The country is moving towards embracing industrial parks and those with technical training will have an upper hand as far as employment is concerned and Shamberere happens to be the best place for one to train as it has state-of-the-art teaching and learning equipment,” she said.

Principal Elisha Nyamu said that they have already started several incoming generating projects within the school to enable them to serve a projected population of over 10,000 students.

“Besides the school purchasing more land for expansion purposes, we have also invested in dairy, beekeeping, and fish and crop farming to ensure we have enough foodstuff for trainees as our population is projected to grow steadily from the current 3,680,” he said.
