Lamu County resumes full funding for 2,250 students

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy

2,250 students in various schools in Lamu County have received full sponsorship from the county government.

The programme had been running since 2013 but took a lull after leadership changed hands in 2017.

Students in boarding schools will each get Ksh40,535 while day scholars will get Ksh15,000.

While issuing the cheques at the Mkunguni grounds, county governor Issa Timamy said his main vision was to ensure that all students who score above 300 marks get quality education.

He told parents to cross check the names and if any has been left out, they should raise the issue with his office for correction.

“We do not want any learner left behind. Kindly get in touch with the Ward administrators if you’re left out,” said Timamy.

The governor said making the list public ensures accountability and transparency.

Parents and guardians have been given 10 days to have all the names captured.
