Kwale governor warns politicians against inciting schoolchildren to engage in violence

Governor Fatuma Achani speaks to Diani residents in Kwale County on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.

Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani has issued a stern warning to politicians who are allegedly inciting school-going children to engage in violence.

She condemned the trend, stating that some leaders are taking advantage of young people for selfish political gains instead of supporting their education and future prospects.

Speaking in Diani, Achani expressed concern over rising cases of youth involvement in crime which she cited as politically motivated chaos, promoted by irresponsible politicians.

“The youth are the backbone of our society, and their education should be our top priority. It is unacceptable for anyone to manipulate them for political mileage while ignoring their well-being,” said Achani.

She called on security agencies to take swift action against individuals found engaging in such activities.

She said that frustration over joblessness should never be used as an excuse for violence and criminal activities.

“Tourism is the backbone of our economy, and any form of insecurity will drive away investors and tourists, ultimately leading to job losses and economic decline,” she said.

She also challenged local leaders to focus on development initiatives that empower young people through education, skills training, and employment opportunities rather than dragging them into unlawful activities.
