Kwale governor launches new ECDE centres for better access to education

Governor Fatuma Achani opens a newly constructed ECDE at Jeza B in Matuga Sub-county on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani has launched Jeza B and Pakapaka Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres in Tsimba-Golini Ward in a bid to enhance proper access to early childhood education in the area.

Speaking during the launch of the two centres, the county boss noted that the initiative is part of a plan to improve infrastructure and strengthen education in the children’s early years.

The newly established ECDE centres are part of the county’s efforts to improve educational infrastructure, ensuring that young learners have a strong foundation in their formative years.

The institutions are expected to provide a conducive learning environment, preparing children for future academic success while promoting holistic development.

During the inauguration, Governor Achani said that her administration is dedicated to prioritizing the education sector, particularly early childhood learning, which plays a crucial role in shaping the future of Kwale’s youth.

“We are committed to providing high standard educational infrastructure for our children, and these ECDE centres are just the beginning,” she said.

The governor also pointed out that investing in early childhood education not only equips children with essential learning skills but also fosters equality in access to quality education across the county.

She reassured parents and stakeholders of her administration’s continued efforts to improve facilities and resources for learners, supporting teachers in delivering a quality learning experience.

The county has constructed over 500 fully furnished ECDEs spread across the 20 Wards, with well-trained teachers employed to provide children with a strong educational foundation.

Currently, more than 900 ECDE teachers are employed on permanent and pensionable terms, a significant improvement from the mere 23 before devolution.

However, Achani urged residents to exercise patience as the county faces challenges due to delays in the disbursement of funds from the National Treasury, which has caused setbacks in the implementation of key development projects.

“We are facing some challenges due to delays of funds from the National Treasury, but I ask you to remain patient. Let’s all focus on developing our county and avoid negative criticism,” he said.

Tsimba/Golini MCA Mwachuo Mwaboza praised the county’s ongoing efforts in education and other sectors, urging Kwale people to continue supporting the development agenda.
