KUPPET Bungoma Branch Executive Secretary Augustine Kundu Lukelelo flanked with other officials addresses the press during a past function.

The Bungoma County KUPPET Branch Executive Secretary Augustine Kundu Luketelo has asked the Ministry of Education to transfer the County Director of Education Pius Ng’oma over what he alleged as corruption and harassment of secondary school principals.

Addressing the press at St Mary’s Sosi Girls in Kimilili Constituency after attending an education stakeholders meeting in Bungoma where heads of schools were in attendance, the unionist reiterated that his office has been receiving numerous reports of being mishandled by the County Director of Education through intimidation, threats and soliciting money from heads of institutions.

According to Luketelo, their efforts as KUPPET Bungoma branch to raise these concerns with the Education Ministry have been futile since last year, noting that they will be forced to block him for entering office if immediate action is not taken.

He added that through poor leadership of the of the Director, county’s  performance in national examinations has been on a downward spiral since principals  and head teachers feel frustrated in their work.

When contacted for comment, the County Director dismissed the claims and accused Luketelo of being unprofessional in dealing with official matters.

He said the KUPPET boss was trying to protect principals who were involved in questionable deals in running of their schools and challenged him to produce tangible evidence of his claims.

“As the County Director, I cannot sit and watch as some principals misappropriate funds meant for infrastructural development in their schools. I cannot also condone school heads who are sending children home for school fees at the expense of their studies,” he said.

He said that those school heads with cases of that nature are the ones that Luketelo is trying to protect and was categorical that he will always defend government interests against personal vendetta.
