The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has appealed for a review and enhancement of TVET instructors’ job groups.
Bomet Branch Executive Secretary Paul Kimetto said the move will help motivate the lecturers to impact positively on student performance.
Speaking at the Bureti National Polytechnic, he said KUPPET was pushing for the review and that talks were at an advanced stage.
“TVET lecturers have suffered over the years despite their hard work. This is unacceptable and as a union, we want the government to review their job groups as soon as possible,” he noted.
According to him, the group has for a long time been neglected compared to staff in other learning institutions, a trend he says is unacceptable.

He commended the lecturers, whom he said perform a critical role in propelling the country towards attainment of its agenda in terms of technical skills.
“Technical skills are crucial for the growth of any country and any serious nation should invest in these skills. We will continue partnering with TVETs so as to enable the country to reach its agenda as far as job creation is concerned,” said Kimetto.
He lauded Sotik Member of Parliament Francis Sigey for investing in technical skills, stating that it will help create employment and transform the region.
The demand has received backing from TVET instructors, who said poor terms of service have remained a major hindrance to service delivery.
