The Kenya Union of Post Primary Teachers (KUPPET) now wants the confusion surrounding the Social Health Authority cover urgently addressed.
Narok Branch Secretary Charles Ngeno lamented that many teachers have been turned away from medical facilities despite contributing to SHA.
Speaking in Kilgoris town, Ngeno observed that denying teachers medical services violates their basic and labour rights.
“Many teachers have been denied services because of the problems surrounding SHA yet we contribute to this cover every month. This is wrong and unacceptable,” he said.

According to him, teachers in the country are frustrated, a situation worsened by what he termed the government’s raid on their payslips.
Ngeno, accompanied by other union officials, now wants the government to pay the medical allowances urgently. If it does not, teachers will stage a demonstration to demand action.
“Teachers are so frustrated, and we want the government to urgently release the medical allowances so that teachers can get treatment. KUPPET has been trying to sort out this problem through talks, but we have now issued a notice because the government has failed to listen to us,” added Ngeno.
KUPPET, which has already issued a 21-day notice, says its attempts to resolve the matter have borne no fruit.
Private Hospitals in the country have suspended SHA services over billions of shillings owed by the government. This situation has caused Kenyans much suffering.
