Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) second National Vice Chairman, Aggrey Namisi, has called on teachers to embrace a savings culture by joining Saccos to enhance their financial stability.
Addressing a large gathering at the thanksgiving ceremony for Bungoma East Executive Secretary Robert Mandillah in Webuye East sub-county, Namisi underscored the need for educators to prioritise their financial well-being.
He warned that many teachers struggle with financial insecurity due to poor saving habits and heavy reliance on loans, making Saccos a critical tool for economic empowerment.

“We must develop a habit of saving. Saccos offers teachers financial security, affordable credit, and investment opportunities. It is time we take control of our financial future,” Namisi said.
The event attracted a high-profile audience, including senior KNUT national, regional, and local officials.
Political leaders, opinion shapers, clan elders, friends, relatives, and local community members were also in attendance, reflecting the deep-rooted support for Mandilla.
With the rising cost of living, he asked educators to use Saccos to secure their future and reduce financial vulnerability.
