The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) are set to hold their Annual Delegates Conferences (ADCs) at different venues in Mombasa next week.
KNUT, going back to its usual venue in Mombasa after years, will hold its 64th ADC at Sheikh Zayed Children’s Educational Center.
The three-day conference, which will bring together delegates from all its 110 branches countrywide, will kick off on Monday, December 9 and end on Wednesday December 11, 2024.
The Conference comes weeks after KNUT, led by Secretary General Collins Oyuu, held talks with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) regarding the 2025-2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and review of its Recognition Agreement.
The Union’s leadership is expected to address what was discussed with the teachers’ employer during the November 22, 2024 meeting and the progress of the agreements that were made.
UASU on the other hand, which recently reaped big after signing a Ksh9.7 billion pay rise for its members following a months-long strike and agitation led by outspoken Secretary General Dr. Constantine Wasonga Opiyo, will have its ADC at Pride Inn hotel in Mombasa.

The two-day Conference, bringing together delegates (lecturers) drawn from all public universities (Chapters) in the country, will start on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 and end the following day.
Apart from celebrating the milestone achievement, which also saw the signing of another lucrative pay deal with Moi University ending a three-month long strike, delegates are expected to vote in a new Constitution on the opening day.
As this unfolds, the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) will be heading to Vihiga for their ADC.
Although the exact date of the ADC is still unknown, reliable sources have hinted to Education News that the two-day meeting might take place the week starting on December 16, 2024, with its commencement between December 18 and 19, 2024.
The event will start with a National Advisory Council (NAC) meeting, which brings together branch Chairpersons, Executive Secretaries and Treasurers from all its branches, before ushering in the ADC the following day.
This year’s ADC comes amid tough leadership wrangles as a result of some officials calling for a change in the Union’s Constitution and transparency ahead of its national elections in 2026.
The ongoing tussle also saw the KUPPET Laikipia branch AGM on November 23, 2024 end prematurely, despite attendance by the Union National Treasurer Mwethi Njenga and National Secretary for Secondary Schools Edward Obwocha, with branch Executive Secretaries of Laikipia (Robert Miano), Samburu (William Lengoyiap), and Mombasa (Lynett Kamadi).
