Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Makueni branch has fully supported the Employment and Labour Relations Court in declaring internship among teachers illegal.
Led by their Executive Secretary Benson Ndambuki, they urged Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to consider employing those teachers on Permanent and Pensionable terms.
“Though the intentions were good, but it was done upside down. TSC should not have internship, let them employ the teachers permanently right from the word go. A whole teacher with a certificate should not be subjected to internship,” Ndambuki.
On promotions of teachers, Ndambuki noted that the promotions were done but many were not pleased. He noted that TSC didn’t observe human resource international standards of interviews.

“The rights should not be violated. There are teachers who have stagnated for about 7 to 10 years in one grade which is a very serious concern. They should be considered,” said Ndambuki.
Ndambuki was in the company of two other branch officials namely Chairman Samuel Mulwa and Treasurer Winfred Nuni who echoed his words.
Mulwa noted that toilets have sunk and infrastructure damaged adding, “We have landslides in hilly areas of Kilungu. We call for proper consultation on school reopening dates.”
He called for the government to provide emergency funds for the reconstruction of the school property damaged by floods since parents cannot carry the burden when they are already overburdened.
