Following a report released by the Kenya Union of Primary School Education Teachers (KUPPET), the Makueni branch of Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Executive Secretary Benson Ndambuki denied claims that Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers are intimidated by primary school head teachers.
“All our teachers in comprehensive schools are treated well. I can assure you that, and if anything, else, it should be sorted amicably, of which we don’t have reports on the same,” Ndambuki.
KUPPET pointed out some schools intimidating JSS teachers, including one well-known school in Makindu.
Ndambuki termed this as causing disharmony in schools where there has been consistency between JSS and the compatriots in the primary.
“Let us work tirelessly to move forward in decisions and policies of the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms, especially now when grade 7, 8 and 9 are already domiciled in primary schools,” Ndambuki.

The unionists reminded everyone that the Heads of Institutions (HOIs) are competently managing schools and will not allow the intrusion of internal administration of these schools.
He called upon the sister union to join them in demanding more resources on Competence Based Curriculum from the Government, modern teacher training, and infrastructure for grade 10 in 2026.
He added that comprehensive schools’ HOIs are now busy implementing career pathways in preparation for a takeover in 2026 in senior schools.
“Moving forward, I encourage both the JSS and the compatriots in the primary to work in harmony under the head teachers in comprehensive schools,” Ndambuki said.
The case of the Makindu school HOI is miserable as it is among the top 10 leading schools in the Republic regarding competency at all levels. Petty politics should, therefore, be kept aside when addressing education matters and touching on our children in our centers of excellence.
The HOI character is unquestionable and above board in all aspects.
