KNUT demands completion of Koitalel Samoei University

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Nandi has appealed for the completion and upgrade of the Koitalel Samoei University College located in the county.

The union questioned the delayed completion of the institution despite the availability of land and millions of shillings allocated annually.

Addressing the press, Nandi East/Tinderet branch Executive Secretary Boniface Tenai wants the institution given priority, as reports emerge that other universities plan to set up campuses in the area.

“We have heard that some universities want to set up campuses in this county. Indeed this is a good move, but how can this happen when our own Koitalel Samoei University has stalled? This is unacceptable,” he said.

According to him, the availability of the institution which he says is owned by locals, will provide students from the county easy access to higher education.

He condemned the removal of construction equipment from the site under mysterious circumstances shortly after the digging of foundation, terming the decision shameful and totally unacceptable.

“Construction equipment was removed from the site under mysterious circumstances after digging the foundation. They left open ditches which endanger the lives of residents. This is shameful. As a Union, we want this university completed as a matter of urgency,” added Tenai.

Tenai now wants the institution completed as soon as possible, vowing that the union, which is a stakeholder, will not tire until the demand is met.

Over 400 acres of land have already been acquired from a multinational company for the project, with residents blaming elected leaders from the county for failing to push for the completion of the university.
