The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has announced that KCSE mid-year examinations for 2025 will take place between July 1 and August 1 later.
The circular issued by KNEC to all County Directors of Education (CDE) states that the registration for the exams will begin on Monday, January 27, and end on February 21.
The registration will be done on the KNEC registration portal, and the exercise will be spearheaded by CDEs across the country.
During the process, the candidates are advised to present themselves at their respective county headquarters to complete the registration process.
The circular signed by KNEC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) David Njengere reads in part, “Candidates wishing to register for the July series are therefore expected to present themselves at their respective county headquarters within the stipulated period to complete the registration process.”
The grading and certification will the same as for normal KCSE examinations done in November.

During the release of 2024 KCSE exams on January 9, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced that as from this year KNEC will introduce KCSE mid-year examinations for those who intend to resit the exams.
“Following extensive stakeholder consultations, I am pleased to announce that KNEC will introduce a mid-year series of the KCSE examination, starting this July and continuing annually,” said Ogamba.
“This examination will target candidates who wish to retake the KCSE, those unable to sit for the exam due to illness or other unforeseen circumstances, and adult candidates who may wish to register for the July KCSE series.”
Those who wish to repeat the exams are eligible irrespective of the year they first wrote the exams. Also, candidates who missed KCSE exams due to various reasons and adult learners not in regular schools are eligible.
Also, the Council has directed that subject cluster must be met for those repeating seven and above subjects.
The registration fee for the examinations is Ksh7200 irrespective of the subjects one wish with to retake. During registration, candidates will be required to present National ID, Birth certificate, KCPE certificate and KCSE result Slip/certificate.
The theory and practical papers will be administered at County headquarters, while projects will be carried out at the sub-county level in institutions to be identified by the SCDEs.
