Kisumu County has sponsored 70 students at the Railways Training Institute (RTI) Marine School Kisumu so far, CECM for Education John Awiti has said.
Speaking during the inauguration of the Tropical Institute of Community Health (TICH) in Kisumu, Awiti said that a number of the students have graduated and secured employment with one beneficiary being enlisted by an international maritime firm in Denmark.
He advised TICH students to apply for bursaries and scholarships, assuring them that the allocation is conducted in a transparent and unbiased manner to all deserving cases.
The Minister urged Form 4 leavers who do not qualify to join Universities to opt for TVET institutions, asking them to discard the notion that the institutions are for academic failures.
Seme MP Dr. James Nyikal urged the government to allocate funds for middle-level colleges, saying that research is the way to go if a country is to make headways in development matters.
TICH Chairman Prof. Dan Kasseje said that they intend to diversify the variety of courses they offer in order to conform to changing global trends.
