Kisumu West MP Rosa Buyu has disbursed Ksh18 million in bursary cheques for students hailing from the constituency.
Buyu noted that 1,860 university, college and TVET students benefited from the bursaries which she said had been delayed by the exchequer.
“Funds arrived in our accounts last week. Many institutions are closing for the festive season, but we had to disburse the funds promptly,” she explained.
Speaking during an event in Ojolla sub-county, she promised to defend the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) kitty, citing the recent High Court ruling that declared it unconstitutional,
The MP stressed that the Fund plays an essential role in supporting local communities and important social disciplines, particularly education.
Speaking at the same event, Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi echoed her sentiments, citing significant achievements in education and infrastructure development.
“What the fund has done is phenomenal and it has touched many families deeply. We will retain NG-CDF for the foreseeable future,” she said. “How I wish the judiciary came down here to speak to the people who directly benefit from these funds,” she said.
