The County Government of Kisumu and a United Kingdom based organisation have entered into a ten-year partnership that will see the development of various education projects in the area.
Making the announcement, Governor Anyang Nyong’o said the partnership with an NGO known as Play Action International (PAI) will lead to quality education and the realisation of an all-round development of children in the ECDE centres.
He was speaking in Seme during the opening of Canon Hesborn Nyong’o ECDE centre while in the company of Play Action International Chief Executive Officer, Maurielle Maupoint.

The governor said that last year they toured UK for one week to build relationships with key organizations such as Play PAI and Wicksteed which would play crucial roles in the successful implementation of this project.

The visit, he said, aimed to explore outstanding models of practice and establish potential partnerships to drive a transformative programme in Kisumu.
“This programme will be supported by both the county government and PAI, in an arrangement where the county will provide land while PAI will provide funding,” he said.

The initiative will run for 10 years and will encompass construction of model ECDE centres, playground installation and play training, school upgrades, teacher bursaries, community play park construction and management, community events and awareness campaign as well as improvement of teacher training colleges.
“Our partnership with PAI will use various strategies to improve the infrastructure in the public pre-primary schools in the county,” he said.
“My government expresses sincere gratitude and appreciation to PAI and other partners for the support to enhance ECDE in Kisumu,” he said.
Kisumu has 653 ECDE centres accommodating 44,521 learners with 698 teachers. Boys are 22,440 while girls 22081.
