Kisii’s varsity graduates in boda boda business appeal for President’s help

With few hours remaining before President William Ruto attend the end of the year party in Kisii County, the boda boda operators from Kenyenya Sub-county have asked the Head of State to intervene in their plight.

They said that most of them are university graduates but poverty caused by lack of employment has forced them to be riders.

Led by James Omwega, they have asked the President to consider holding a fundraising drive in the region aimed at uplifting the graduates who have almost lost hope of staying home for more than ten years after completion of university without getting any employment.

“If he creates a fund-raising initiative, it will help these types of people to start their own businesses that will help them to fend for their families,” he said.

Some of the youths have said the President has sidelined the region on the major government appointments asking him to clarify the position of the community in the sharing of the national cake when he comes to celebrate with them.

They argued that traditionally, Kisii region has been having two Cabinet Secretaries and three Principal Secretaries in the government since independence accusing Ruto of altering the setting.

They said that the region now has only one CS, Julius Ogamba, head of education docket and asked the President to consider appointing one PS from the region.

They singled out Bomachoge Borabu Constituency as the most underprivileged area on government appointment position and attributed it to their area MP Obadiah Barongo who is in the opposition and this has delayed development in region.

Thanking President Ruto for agreeing to join hands with Raila Odinga to form a broad-based government, they anticipated their MP to use the opportunity to bargain with the President Ruto to assist him boost development in the area.

Speaking to Education News Bomachoge Borabu MP Obadiah Barongo confirmed President Ruto’s tour. “I accompanied the President to church and he confirmed his coming to end the year in Kisii and he will tour our constituency to revive the stalled projects,” he said.

Barongo told the residents to turn up in big numbers to welcome the President.

He said that his Constituency has received 77 slots, the second highest in the region after Nyamache which received 84 in the ongoing teachers’ recruitment exercise and perceived it as a harbinger of better fortunes for the future.

This will be President Ruto’s third visit to the region this year.

His latest visit was in August when he commissioned various projects that included Kegati Water project and affordable housing project at Ogembo town.
