Kisii School hosts sports contests to mark 9 decades of existence

Kisii School rugby team in duel with Cardinal Otunga Mosocho during the Kisii School at 90 tournament on Sunday.

Kisii National School has marked its nine decades of existence by hosting several schools in open tournaments in different sporting genres such as rugby, soccer, handball, and badminton, among others.

Rugby was exceptionally popular, attracting many participants that included Kibabii, Kifaru RFC, Itierio, Cardinal Otunga Mosocho, Enkinda of Nyamira County, and Nyabigena High schools.

In the finals, the host ruthlessly mauled Cardinal Otunga Mosocho 47:O to be crown champions in the first ever edition of the tournament.

During the preliminaries, they confronted Kibabii and hammered them 22-0 before thrashing Itiero 36-0.

Kifaru RFC tried their luck, but were sent packing with a 18-0 score line before doubling that up against Nyabigena Boys to end at 36-0.

Their coach Lee Arstone said his boys will use this tournament to gauge their future competitions as they prepare for this year’s sports calendar.

“The boys have shown their prowess and beaten Cardinal Otunga High School, but ours is not to be overconfident and settle although my boys looked too strong against the Cardinals,” he said.

His Cardinal Otunga counterpart Bukky Onduso expressed optimism that his team will rise from the ashes and give a good account of themselves when the competitions are called.
