Kisii professionals laud President Ruto for appointing Prof Michieka as Chancellor of Tharaka University

Professionals from Kisii County have thanked President William for appointing Prof Ratemo Michieka the Chancellor of Tharaka University for a period of five years.

Led by Dr Peter Gesage, they said the appointment is timely win for the community in the Kenya Kwanza Government.

“His appointment is not personal but a consideration of the community and we thank the President for that post,” he said.

Prof Michieka is a former Director General of the National Enviroment Management Authority (NEMA) and founding Vice Chancellor of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

He is a man of good academic background having earned a doctorate degree in Weed Science from Rutgers University.

He returned to Kenya where he taught and later became chairman of the Department of Crop Science at the University of Nairobi.

In 1994, he was named Vice Chancellor of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and was later appointed Director General of National Environment Management Authority.

Until his current appointment, Prof Ratemo was serving as Chairman of Africa Union Scientific Research and innovation Council (ASRiC).

It is hoped that the Professor will bring with him the long experience earned from both public and private institutions to catapult Tharaka University to greater academic development and achievement.
