Kirinyaga’s 140,000 learners have benefited from KSh413 million bursary in six years

Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru displays a dummy cheque of KSh 147 million disbursed to over 40,000 students.

Over 140,000 learners from Kirinyaga County have benefited from KSh413 million bursary in six years.

Kirinyaga County has cumulatively disbursed bursaries worth KSh413.8 million in the last six years, benefitting 146,211 deserving students. The current disbursement stands as the largest and increased from KSh70 million given in 2019.

The administration has disbursed KSh147.5 million that will benefit 45,000 students from needy backgrounds in the 2022/2024 Financial Year.

Out of these students, 35,656 are drawn from secondary schools, 5,443 from colleges and 3,901 from various universities.

Waiguru reaffirmed her commitment to supporting the needy students and improvement of the county’s academic performance so that every learner accesses the opportunity to fulfill his or her potential.

“We are committed to supporting education of the needy children in the society since we believe that every one of them should have the opportunity and means to realise their full potential regardless of their circumstance,” she said.

She urged the bursary recipients to maintain their academic focus, emphasising the importance of education in shaping their future saying it will help them contribute meaningfully to their communities and the nation.

“Parents kindly talk to our children who are beneficiaries to put more effort in their education, as I support them they are also supposed to set their goals in life,” Waiguru said.
