Kilifi county government disburses shs.122.5 million to secondary school, colleges and university students

Kilifi county government has disbursed sh122.5 million to secondary school, College and University students being bursaries for third term this year (2024 ) to enable them to pursue education in the country, Education News has learnt.

Speaking to Education News in his office in Kilifi town recently, Kilifi County Executive Committee Member in charge of Education and ICT Ministry, Mr. Felkin Kaingu Ndena disclosed that some 2,700 national school students in the region have benefited from full scholarships for the third term amounting to shillings 25 million to enable them to continue with their education in the country.

He further revealed that there are 35 political wards in the county and each ward has received shillings 3.5 million being students’ third term fees.

The County Executive Committee Member, however, stated that there will be no single bright secondary school student from a poor background in the county who will stay at home due to lack of school fees.

However, Mr Ndena urged parents in the region to come forward and apply for bursaries for their children to enable them to continue with their education, further noting that children will not get bursaries, if their parents did not apply for them.

“The county government has given the education sector great attention in terms of budgetary allocation amounting to shillings 1 billion this year being bursaries and scholarships”, he explained.

He further stated that the county government has set aside shillings 538 million to implement ECDE and Vocational and Training Centres development projects in the region.

“Some 174 additional classrooms will soon be constructed to cope with the ever-increasing number of ECDE children in the region”, Mr Ndena added.

The County Executive Committee Member asked parents in the county to encourage their children who completed standard eight and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE ) to join Vocational and Training Centres in large numbers to acquire basic technical skills in various fields.

He revealed that Technical Training Institutions play an important role in the country that of preparing the youth for self-employment in future.

He also urged Non-Governmental Organisations  (NGOs) operating in the county to come forward and support Education programmes to make them a success.
