Kilifi County Government is set to increase its scholarships and bursaries from Ksh500 million to 1 billion shillings to make it easy for secondary school, college and university students from poor backgrounds to acquire an education.
Speaking to Education News in Kilifi town recently, Education Chief Officer (CO) Fredrick Nguma revealed that currently the county sets aside Ksh350 million as bursaries and Ksh150 million as scholarships.
He further noted that the total amount is not enough considering the ever increasing number of needy students in the county.
The CO said there will be no single bright secondary school student in the county who will stay at home due to lack of school fees.
