Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) Kakamega North branch has lauded the retiring Principal of Friends Namanja Secondary School, John Wafula Kharemwa, for displaying excellent leadership during his tenure at the school.
The school’s sponsor, Friends Quakers Church, also heaped praises on Wafula for his result-oriented management techniques which improved performance in KCSE, pushing the institution into the academic limelight.
Speaking during Wafula’s farewell party, KESSHA Welfare Chairperson and Principal of Friends Mang’uliro Secondary School, Salano Simwa appreciated Wafula for not only initiating numerous projects, but also increasing enrollment at the school.
Friends Church General Superintendent Cleophas Kharinda and Presiding Clerk Dr. Harrison Kavingwa celebrated the good working relationship the school management and the church enjoyed and urged the incoming Principal, Shem Memeti Kulecho, to ensure continuity.
“We as Quaker Church have no problems with Principals who are not of our faith being posted in our schools and we have always worked well with them as long as they adhere to our doctrines,” said Kavingwa.
The school Board of Management (BoM) Chairperson Dr. Isaac Motochi Taracha said that Wafula was a quiet man but his actions spoke louder, including doubling the school population, from 400 to 900.
“He also spearheaded the acquisition of a school bus, which is currently being designed and will be delivered soon,” he said. On his part, Kulecho assured stakeholders that the school was in good hands and promised Wafula that he will register more university entries in this year’s KCSE exams.
“I’m delighted to be part of the Namanja family and I promise to keep the academic torch burning. I pledge to continue working as a team to better this school,” he said.
Butali/Chegulo ward MCA Kevin Mahelo assured the candidate class that he will continue to supporting them by purchasing rice to sustain them during the exam period.
Also in attendance were other KESSHA members comprising of Martin Waswa (Principal, Bulupi Secondary, Paul Shitanda (Matioli Salvation Army), Francis Memeti (Namushiya), Philip Andala (Shirugu), Joy Okech Mulama (Vashele), Catherine Kasembeli Shitikho (Manyonje).
